Lucas Hnath had two ideas when he started writing the play: First, a door would be knocked on (this door is the door of the house that Nora left 15 years ago). Second, Torvald (this man is Nora\u2019s husband, whom she left 15 years ago) and Nora would have an actual argument (in the author&#8217;s words, &#8220;get into the muck&#8221;), something they did not do in Ibsen\u2019s text. Thus, a door is knocked on, Anne Marie (this woman is the one who raised Nora and, after Nora left, also raised Nora\u2019s three children) opens the door, and it is Nora who arrives; the Nora who has not been heard from for 15 years and was presumed dead.
